What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure is a security protocol used in credit card and debit card transactions. As the name suggests, this protocol provides a three-dimensional layer of security and helps make online payments more secure. It is called “Verified by Visa” by Visa and “Mastercard SecureCode” by Mastercard. Other card brands also use this protocol.

It asks a series of security questions to verify the identity of the cardholder used during payments. These questions are determined by the cardholder’s bank and can only be known by the cardholder. In this way, the identity of the cardholder is verified, and fraudulent use of the card is prevented.

It plays a major role in credit card transactions, especially in online shopping. In online payments, the risk of fraud increases due to the cardholder’s physical absence and the sharing of card information over the Internet. 3D Secure reduces this risk and ensures the security of payments.

In order for the payment transaction to take place, a payment transaction compatible with the 3D Secure protocol must be made. Therefore, online shoppers must activate 3D Secure during payment.

It also provides protection in case the cardholder’s card information is used by someone else. In this case, the cardholder’s bank receives a warning that the card was used fraudulently and the transaction is cancelled.

3D Secure is an important tool for ensuring the security of online payments. With this protocol, cardholders and merchants feel more secure and help prevent fraudulent transactions.
